In 1981 Kraftwerk released the song “Pocket Calculator.” It came in this nifty package, inside of which was a cassette. Inside the cassette there was tape. On the tape, there was the song. To play it, you needed a special device called a…ugh, never mind.

Above, the Kraftwerkers seem to be accompanying themselves on the Bee Gees’ Rhythm Machine.

The song’s lyrics are:

I’m the operator with my pocket calculator
I’m the operator with my pocket calculator
I am adding and subtracting
I’m controlling and composing
I’m the operator with my pocket calculator
I’m the operator with my pocket calculator
I am adding and subtracting
I’m controlling and composing
By pressing down a special key, it plays a little melody
By pressing down a special key, it plays a little melody
I’m the operator with my pocket calculator
I’m the operator with my pocket calculator
