The other day in Paris, my mom and I had lunch with the illustrator Rick Tulka at Le Select, the cafe to which he paid homage in his recent book, Paris Cafe. Rick mentioned to me that, as of last month, you can no longer buy incandescent light bulbs in France. Sacre bleu! Since light plays a pretty big part in the drawing process, artists around the country are none to pleased. I asked Rick to eulogize the incandescent bulb in a drawing.
In the US, good old incandescents will be phased out in 2012. That also happens to be the year when the world is supposed to end. Coincidence?
