Library Saga! Part 3.
(See here for Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3)
My feet got a little heavy when it was time to return my library books. I won’t lie: I was afraid I might see the pregnant lady. Actually, I was afraid I’d see the pregnant lady and she’d know I’d blogged about her. I’m uncertain if this is paranoia on my part, or a kind of realistic consequence of our interconnected web world. But I’m pretty certain it’s not paranoia. But you think I’m paranoid, don’t you.
Anyway, foot dragging = $30+ in fines which I now owe to the New York Public Library. This doesn’t include the cost of the book I left at my in-law’s house in Spain. I’ve asked them to mail it, but the Spanish do things at their own pace; they require a lot of naps. So, I doubt I’ll see this book any time soon. I also probably won’t see the Mother’s Day gift I left there by mistake in the same bag with book. Really Mom! I swear!
Should the library track me down, the road will actually lead them to my mom, her apartment being the address I gave when I got my card at age six. The two of them should have a lot to talk about.
I should also add that I found my wallet, which had my library card in it. Hooray! It also had my library copy card, which I haven’t used in ages. In a moment of purging today, I considered throwing it out. I don’t foresee making a lot of copies anytime soon, and who knows if those things expire. But then I realized I didn’t remember how much money I’d put on the card. What if it has hundreds of dollars on it and I just forgot?! Or maybe there was a glitch and it added money! So, I stuck it back into my wallet—it’s my own little Powerball ticket. I might be able to make free copies with it forever. Hey, a girl can dream.
This evening I checked my StatCounter report and was cheered to see that one Google searcher out there came to my site because he’s exploring ways libraries can continue to be exciting gathering places. So, I salute whoever it was in West Concord, Minnesota, who this evening came to this page by doing the following search:
