The Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University has pulled off this nifty spoof of the Old Spice “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” commercials. (Aside: I once met a man who acted in a Lever2000 shower commercial and was all “It gave me a rash.”)
Yes, a university is running commercials to get kids to go to a place where they will spend no money. Oh, scratch that—seems this library has a snack bar.
What if all libraries had this kind of budget for advertising? Think of all the people who would show up just to…do what they otherwise would be doing at Starbucks. Or on the Internet. Or on the Internet at the Starbucks in Barnes & Noble. Don’t shoot the messengerette! I’m not anti-librarist, I’m just speaking for all the people who might think like me and maybe don’t have their own blog soapboxes. (But I’m speaking very softly, and my cell phone is off).
Dear Bringham Young University ad folk, may I suggest a new slogan?
“Kids, come to the library. It’s a really good place to have sex.”
