This is a non-functional Polaroid. But it’s pretty. Reminds me of that clear plastic phone that was the only thing I wanted as a kid. Well, that, a mechanical egg-laying chicken, a dog, a role on a sitcom, and the chance to touch Tom Cruise.

Didn’t get, did, did, didn’t (but walk on part in a soap—comes close), did. Three out of five ain’t bad. And I still have some years ahead of me!

Apparently, Google is bringing back ye old phone booth. Imagine— a place to make calls in PRIVATE! How will anyone ever know what you talked about? Besides the other person? Can you imagine? Is there another booth where you can then go Tweet about it? Can you 4-Square that you’re there? If they put four booths together, can you 4-Square about 4-rectangles?

So many questions. Here’s one more: When it rings, does it go “Buzz?”

Save The English Language!

The editors of Oxford University Press and the Oxford English Dictionary are concerned about all of the wonderful words in English that are ‘disappearing’ from the language from lack of use.

So, they’ve come up with a great solution: Adopt a Word.

It’s free to adopt a word, the words are old and weird and fun to use, you can buy a t-shirt with your word on it (only if you wish; it’s not a requirement), and you can choose your adopted word!

All you agree to, in adopting your word, is to use it! You can spray paint it on a wall, use it in a meeting, win a game of Scrabble with it, or even walk around town wearing a sign-board/sandwich-board with your word on it! (Or, you could wear the aforementioned t-shirt, if you want!)

I adopted the word foppotee, which is appropriate here, since only a simpleton wouldn’t want to adopt a word and help save the English language, right?

“My cell phone doesn’t work in this new place, which was kind of nice for a while, since I hate talking on the phone. But I started missing important calls. Interviews for stories. Texts from boys. Not good. I finally got a land line yesterday, and it gave me the perfect opportunity to actually use the old rotary phone I grew up using. It’s been kicking around my apartment for a while as useless decoration. Now it’s my lifeline to the world! It takes me like five minutes to dial out, but it makes the best sound, that dial, that unmistakable sound.”

An ode to the Polaroid. The film, made in the pre-digital photography era, is a reminder of how our conception of the idea of “instant” has vastly shifted.Or maybe time is just speeding up? Will today’s digital photography seem sloooow to future generations? Are we better off or worse off now that we have more than ten exposures on hand at a time—now that we can now shoot and shoot and delete and shoot ad infinitum? Discuss.
