From Liz Arnold, she of Homebodies fame:

“My cell phone doesn’t work in this new place, which was kind of nice for a while, since I hate talking on the phone. But I started missing important calls. Interviews for stories. Texts from boys. Not good. I finally got a land line yesterday, and it gave me the perfect opportunity to actually use the old rotary phone I grew up using. It’s been kicking around my apartment for a while as useless decoration. Now it’s my lifeline to the world! It takes me like five minutes to dial out, but it makes the best sound, that dial, that unmistakable sound.”

Could we call this a “cattle call?” Are they equipped with ramswering machines? Do they belong to the Farmer in the Dial?

That’s all I got.

This thing is really cool! Why didn’t it ever catch on? Maybe because it could only be used if you had the hand of a tyrannosaurus?

CUTE ANIMALS WITH OBSOLETE OBJECTS: Vol. III, Issue 2.

I love pandas. I love rotary phones. I was pretty darn psyched to see both of them together in one picture!

ITEM: ‘Rotalight’ by Downstairs Studio

I love flashlights. I love rotary phones. Here we see a mashup between these two cherished items in the ‘Rotaphone’ by Canadian/Japanese design team Downstairs Studio. Simply pick up the handset to turn on the light and use the rotary dial to adjust the brightness. Quirky! Fun! Possibly useless!
